Who says paying attention to world news isn’t important? These had somehow escaped my notice ( probably because I’ve never paid attention to trucks).

I love the camo, but it seems a questionable choice.

I was listening to BBC world news yesterday and heard about this.

A consistent use of Toyota trucks by ragtag insurrectionist groups across the globe is probably the absolute gold standard. I mean if it can bring the fight to the capitalist war machine it can probably get your ass to a campsite.

These are a staple of any north African or ME conflict. Makes you wonder about Toyota sales reps and how Toyota is profiting off these sales. ISIS had a whole bunch of brand new LC pickups.

Yay for US for killing dictators and bringing peace and prosperity to highly contested regions, right? ....right?

Guys in blue camo... lybian navy? Also wearing an ushanka in north africa? What?
Truck is nice I guess. Think the dshka is a factory option by this point?

Yeah, if you can’t fight it doesn’t matter what you’re driving. Turns out that religious fanatics and disaffected European teens make for shitty warriors. Whoda’ thought...

I'm not convinced that US consumers would be prepared to pay the fifty grand price of entry for such a basic vehicle.

Hold my beer...

The problem is Toyota would sell these for $100k here.

I’d imagine a Hilux vs an F-22 or A-10 isn’ t exactly a fair fight either though.

Not at all. Which is why the whole “the 2nd Amendment will protect us from tyranny” argument is bullshit. Your AR15 ain’t gonna do shit against a Predator dropping ordinance on your neighborhood.

Fair point. Yet the Gladiator when it is sold in Oz will 10 grand cheaper, be full of features and have seating for a extra 3 punters. On the flip side...two star EuroANCAP safety rating, automatic and petrol only and sufficient payload only for the shopping....so the Cruiser is still a better deal (especially in tthe cheaper dual cab format )
![]() 04/08/2019 at 01:35 |

Yeah, the Land Cruiser here starts at $85k, so a pickup version would probably carry a premium. It’s a luxury vehicle, not an offroader, on par with a G wagon. I actually see many more G wagons than new LCs, all driven by people who are on their way to the country club, rather than the country.
![]() 04/08/2019 at 05:31 |

If the proportions work out...then an LC70 pickup should come in around US $60k then. One thing the LC70 is not is a luxury vehicle....

No one says he was good. But did he keep peace in his country? Honestly, what’s better - Qaddafi ruling the way he did and keeping peace and having one of the most stable countries in the region, or current state of “freedom” i n Libya?

Arguing that a dictator is is good because they make the trains run on time is a cliche that does not require acknowledgement.
![]() 04/08/2019 at 13:44 |

Arguing that dictator is bad while ignoring the fact that without him, the whole country is in a civil war for close to a decade, that ISIS has taken a hold there, that the place is in ruins, and that there is no peace even remotely in sight is simply naive. They traded one evil for another, and my argument is that the new evil is far worse. But hey, democracy.
![]() 04/08/2019 at 13:45 |

Your argument is bad, but I’m not a dictator, so your bad arguments do not endanger you.

Do you honestly think Libya is currently better and has been better ever since the fall of Qaddafi? That civil war is better than what they had, with stable economy ?
As someone who’s family lived their whole lives under Tito and I ended up living in the wonderful world of post-Tito with civil wars, embargoes, collapsed economy etc, I know what I’d pick in a heartbeat.
